Burlington police have started offering the public an electronic messaging service that will allow them to receive updates on traffic problems, crime alerts, emergencies, meeting topics and other information.
Other Chittenden County police agencies are considering following Burlington's lead.
Burlington has signed up with Nixle.com. The city's police department sends updates to the Web site, which quickly posts the information.

A TORY MP has been accused of mud-slinging after she claimed on Twitter that a Scots Labour rival sexually harassed her three years ago.
Colourful backbencher Nadine Dorries made the tit-for-tat allegation after her party colleague Sir Nicholas Winterton was slammed for slapping a female Labour MP on the bottom in the Commons tearoom.
She told fans on her Twitter page that the Labour MP, who she didn't name, followed her into the Commons cloakroom and told her: "You were in my dreams all night, would you like to know what you were doing?"
